Vowl
Strategy
Vowl runs on the whole Scrabble dictionary, which makes it a different game from the one most guessing advice was written for. These pages work out what actually changes, using the same word lists the server plays from.
Everything here is computed, not remembered. Where a page says a word leaves you 196 candidates, that number came from playing that word against all 8,636 possible answers and counting. If you want to check any of it, the lists are the ENABLE dictionary and the method is written out on each page.
Start here
- Your Wordle opener is wrong here Why the S at the end of the word breaks every opening-word list you have read.
- Every opener, scored Twenty-odd candidate first guesses ranked for 4, 5 and 6 letters, with the method.
- Letter frequency by position Which letters sit where, slot by slot, for all three word lengths.
- The second guess What to do with an all grey board, one yellow, or two greens and no idea.
- Playing the race, not the word The ghost lane changes your risk appetite. When to gamble and when to grind.
The short version
If you only read one line: open with TARES on five letters, SANE on four, ORATES on six, and stop spending guesses on vowels. The reasoning is the rest of this section.
