Vowl
Privacy
Vowl has no accounts, no sign-up, and no password. This page describes everything the site stores and every third party it hands anything to.

What is stored on your device
Vowl keeps two things in your browser's local storage:
- The display name you typed, so you do not have to type it again next time.
- A random player id - a string of random characters generated in your browser, tied to nothing else. It exists so that if your phone drops the connection mid-round you get your own seat and your own board back instead of a stranger's.
Neither is an account and neither is linked to an email address, a phone number, or a profile anywhere. Clearing your browser storage for this site erases both, and the next game starts you fresh.
What is stored on the server
While a game is running the server holds the room's invite code, the word length, each player's display name, the guesses each player has made, and server-side timestamps for solves - it needs all of that to referee the round and keep the room's win record. A room with nobody connected to it is deleted after thirty minutes, along with its in-progress state.
Finished duels are recorded - the room code, the word length, the display names, who won, and when. Display names are whatever you typed; if you would rather not have one recorded, type something that is not your name.
Vowl does not ask for your location, your contacts, your camera, your microphone, or any other device permission, and it does not have a mechanism for you to upload anything.
Advertising
This site shows ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve those ads and to measure them. Depending on your settings and where you are, that can include personalised advertising based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices.
- For more on how Google uses data from sites that use its services, see policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you will be asked for consent before personalised ads are shown, and you can change that choice at any time from the same prompt.
Analytics
Vowl runs no analytics product and no tracking pixels of its own. Ordinary web server logs may record the usual request data - IP address, time, and browser user agent - which is what any web server sees by necessity in order to answer a request.
Children
Vowl is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. Material changes will be noted here rather than made quietly.
